Becoming A Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provide daily basic care for patients in  providing both physical and emotional support for patients in the Long-term care setting. 


CNAs must be able to provide personal assistance to individuals who are unable to care for themselves and help regain and maintain daily functions. 


Physical Strength: Must be

To be certified as a nursing assistant, the student must successfully complete the New Jersey curriculum for Nurse Aide in Long Term Care Facilities Training and Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP). 


The Certified Nurse Aide course is comprised of 90 hours: 50 instructional (classroom) hours and 40 clinical laboratory hours.

Introduction:

You will learn about compassionate care and treatment for vulnerable communities. The instructor will demonstrate skills in classroom setting, and work in compliance with NJ testing requirements. 


Advanced Skills: 

Be able to Introduce yourself professionally, showing dignity and respect when greeting and assisting aid through

Be able to Introduce yourself professionally, showing dignity and respect when greeting and assisting aid through verbal, written and physical contacts, with nurses and residents. 


Becoming Certified: 

You will be using a take-home workbook to complete on a weekly basis. Read required documents, contracts, and reports before signing. Training and documentation is mandatory part of learning and service in the Healthcare profession.

  1. At least 17 years of age.
  2. Must have your High School Diploma or GED.
  3. Valid Identification card (driver’s license, state ID, or Passport)
  4. Social Security card.
  5. Criminal Background check.
  6. TB Test (2-step PPD test or Quantiferon.
  7. Flu vaccine (seasonal)
  8. Medical clearance. 
  9. Fill out and submit admission application.

Time management: 

Demonstrate reliability by arriving to class and clinical assignment, at the appropriate assigned time and place. 


Classroom Etiquette:

Come prepared for each day, well groomed, and wearing approved uniform or scrubs.


Complete required reading materials and engage in weekly classroom and clinical discussions. 


Attendance:

Students are expect to complete all hours in-person, under direct supervision of a the Director of Nursing.
